Current GDP of India 6.9%. Expecting a two digit figure within 2-3 years. Current FDI(Foreign Direct Investment ) around 2 billion. Expecting to witness growth in a year.Increasing infrastructure, developing cities, industrialization, Increase in SEZs are some of the entities which mark the status of India. But a terrifying question that is jumping in front of us is should we celebrate our urbanization or mourn for deteriorating condition of poor villagers and tribals. Where are we leading to?Are we fulfilling one sector of India at the expense of others ? If so then we should throw that group of people out of our land because anyways they are not going to get a normal life here.
Government is taking steps to control poverty, to step up the economy of poor villagers and to educate unprivileged students but we are getting only a part of the output instead of whole. Till now Rs 29,000 crores has been invested in Narmada Project of Gujarat but only 29% of the work is complete. Lands of the farmers are still getting flooded. SEZs(Special Economic Zones) are being set up on poor farmers land. It is necessary for development. But then it is also important to give them place to live and employment. There is no interaction between the government and the people from whom land is being taken .When MOUs were sighned with Tata and Essar, the locals were anxious whose land is going to be sacrificed. Whether there will be any compensation, rehabilitation or employment for those locals. On enquiring about it they were told it is not allowed to discuss the matter with any third party. This shows how responsible our government is.
Another problem seeded by poverty is “NAXALITES”,the most dreaded intrinsic threat to our country as Mr.Manmohan Singh said. In 2009, 2258 districts were declared as naxal area,1951 naxalites got arrested. A force of 26,000 cadres is being trained to fight against Maoists. Manmohan Singh announced unless naxalites do not throw their arms we will not have any talk with them. But did Indian government tried to deal with this problem at grassroot level. Naxals were born in 1967 in Naxalbari village of westBengal to fight for the rights of peasants and since then there is no turning back and result is such a vast aggregation of naxals. Have government tried to introduce any facilities in the naxal prone areas for the upliftment of the people. Maoists are fighting for the people but in a very degrading manner which is to be erased. But from few sources it is known that naxalites are not harming any NGOs but when they come face to face with any government based forces they become violent. Their main aim is to destroy government. It is quite interesting to know that all the Maoist prone areas, poverty prone areas and mineral based areas overlap each other. This shows wherever there is poverty naxalites are fighting for the rights. In mineral based areas tribals are overthrown to carry out the work of progress and as a result Maoists are abundant in those areas. Government need to solve this problem. They need to work for the progress of backward areas in real terms and not only by allocating money in the budget.
In India there are various layers in between planning and execution of various development schemes.Government need to act against all the adverse situations and erode the corruption which is engulfing each and every sector of India. Its an urgent situation to make rich and poor both richer. They need to interact with poors as a true politician not a corrupted one.
